Taroudant (Arabic تارودانت Tarudant, alternative name Tarudant ) is a city in Morocco and capital of the province of Taroudant.

History

First mention is Taroudant in the 11th century. Before it was destroyed in 1306 by the Marinids, it was around 1030 residence of a Shiite Berber princes. Then Taroudant rose to become a center of the region and was 1520-1540 capital of the Saadian. His heyday Taroudant in the 17th century as a trade and caravan center. 1687 the village Sultan Moulay Ismail through the alaouitischen was partially destroyed.
