Tarrant automobile

The Tarrant Motor Company was the first automobile manufacturer in Victoria (Australia) and the first Australian manufacturer gasoline -powered automobiles. The company was founded in 1901 by Colonel Harley Tarrant.

After the construction of motor vehicles 16 it became clear that the production in Australia in view of the prior foreign automotive technology - mainly represented by the Ford Model T - did not pay.

Technology

The Tarrant was a two-seater roadster and front mounted engine. The side-valve four- cylinder engine had a displacement of 3.5 liters and developed a power of 16-18 bhp ( 11.8 to 13.2 kW).

Legacy

The last surviving Tarrant was bought in 2002 by the Royal Automobile Club of Victoria.
