Tarrazu

Tarrazú is a canton of the Costa Rican province of San José. The capital is San Marcos. This is an important area for the cultivation of coffee, are produced in the highest quality coffee from ideal altitudes. The name comes from the language of the Tarrazú Huetar Indians who originally lived in this area.

Geography

The region is located south of the capital San José. It is bordered by the Pacific Ocean, the Central Valley and the central mountain range of Costa Rica.

Coffee

The first plants were 250 years ago, imported from Cuba. Today 100 coffee trees per inhabitant.

The tasteful coffee bean is mainly due to the climatic conditions (sunlight, temperature and rainfall ), and the nutrient-rich volcanic soils.

Tourism

Tarrazú is one of the least touristy regions of Costa Rica, although it is easy to reach by bus and a pleasant climate offers.
