History

Button was founded in Cork in August 1966 as a trio consisting of Rory Gallagher (guitar and vocals ), Eric Kitteringham on bass and Norman Damery on drums. In the early years toured key in Hamburg and Ireland before they got a permanent position in the Maritime Hotel, an R & B club in Belfast.

In 1968, key in the UK occur. The original line-up broke up. Newly arrived Richard McCracken on bass and John Wilson on drums. The group moved now permanently to London, where they had signed a record deal with Polydor. During this time the band toured with the British supergroup Blind Faith by the United States and Canada. 1969 published her first two studio albums, button, first button and soon after On the boards, the latter showed jazz influences with some saxophone deposits of Gallagher. In November, the opening act, together with Yes, the " Cream 's Farewell " concerts.

Perhaps the most notable appearance occurred on August 28, 1970 at the Isle of Wight Festival, along with bands such as Procol Harum and Chicago. Key has been very well received and called out to five encores. Later that year, the band toured again in Europe and was the last show in Belfast on New Years Eve 1970. 1971 key broke up because frontman Rory Gallagher wanted to focus on his solo career. The end of 2006 John Wilson was under the name button for a few concerts. He was complemented by Nick Scott on bass and Sam Davidson on guitar. Eric Ketteringham, the bassist of the original cast, died 7 May 2013 in Cork at the age of 66 years.
