Technology

The various versions differ not only in the number of axes. To stand for the 8 × 8 and 6 × 6 tractors through the 5 - speed synchromesh transmission, combined with two-speed auxiliary transmission and two-stage planetary gear, a total of 20 forward and four reverse gears, while the 4 × 4 versions over ten forward and two reverse gears have. In contrast to most other truck designs, the Tatra do not have a ladder frame with rigid axles, but the Tatra typical central tube frame with swing axles. Therefore, the wheels of the semi-axes show especially during rebounding a positive camber. Inside the voluminous central tube all distributor shafts and gearboxes and differentials are accommodated and that they are protected when traveling in the area before ground contact. In the 8 × 8 Tatra the central manifold differential gear, the intermediate differentials front and rear axle differentials Achspaares and can be blocked, which helps the 8 × 8 model for extreme off-road capability.

The 8 × 8 vehicles have semi-elliptic leaf springs on all axles. The 6 × 6 versions semi-elliptic leaf springs at the two front axles and torsion bar suspension on the rear axle. The 4 × 4 trucks have torsion bars on all axes, while the 4x4 tractor unit with torsion bar springs at the front and air springs are fitted at the rear. All vehicle models have fixed front driver cabins. With the 6 x 6, and 8 x 8 and four-door vehicles, they are fünfsitzig. The 4 × 4 variants have shorter two-door cabs.
