Tauese Sunia

Tauese Tuailemafua Pita Fiti Samaya ( born August 29, 1941 in Fagatogo, American Samoa, † March 26, 2003 on the way to Hawaii ) was an American politician. Between 1997 and 2003 he was Governor of American Samoa.

Career

Tauese Samaya studied at Kearney State Teacher 's College in Nebraska, the subjects of history and political science. He then studied at the University of Hawaii pedagogy. In the following years he worked as a school teacher of his homeland. He also taught with the help of television. The Samaya was the administrative head of the American Samoa Community College and Deputy Minister of Education of American Samoa. He also studied law and practiced in his homeland. In the years 1991 and 1992 he was chairman of the local Bar Association. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party.

In 1996 Tauese Samaya was elected to succeed AP Lutali the new Governor of American Samoa. This post he held between January 1997 and his death 3 on 26 March 2003. He campaigned for a further improvement of education and demanded, among other things, access to the Internet in schools for all students to improve the learning opportunities. Tauese Samaya had since 1971 also deacon of the Congregational Church in American Samoa. Since 1996, he served as the parish council for the entire United States and New Zealand. He died during a flight to Hawaii, where he wanted to go to a medical treatment.
