Taverny

Taverny is a commune in the department of Val- d'Oise in the Île- de -France region. It belongs to Arrondissement Pontoise and is the administrative center ( chef - lieu) of the Canton of Taverny. The town has 26,195 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011). In Taverny is since 1963, the operations center of the strategic nuclear air forces of France.

Geography

Taverny is located on 92 m above sea level, about 20 km north of Paris. The urban area covers 10.4 km ² and is inhabited closed with 2,491 inhabitants per km ². Eastern borders of the great forest of the Forêt de Montmorency Domaniale the city area. The city belongs to the Valley of Montmorency.

The population of Taverny has tripled in a period of less than 30 years.

History

The first written mention dates to the year 754 (Charter of Pippin ).

In the second half of the Hundred Years' War, in 1346, was occupied and destroyed Taverny after the Battle of Crecy by the British.

The region came to considerable prosperity under the reign of Louis XI. In the aftermath Taverny was the property of the Counts of Montmorency.

By decree of 16 June 1806, the municipality was merged with Taverny Claire -Fontaine cy -devant Saint- Leu Saint -Leu- Taverny. 1852 to 1870 this was renamed Napoléon -Saint -Leu- Taverny. In October 1915, the municipalities Taverny and now Saint -Leu- la -Forêt were independent again.

  • One of the many churches is the 1977 -built church of Notre -Dame-des -Champs.

Infrastructure

Taverny is very well served by the well-developed highway network of metropolitan Paris. The A115 runs through the village.
