Taxicab stand

A taxi rank, often colloquially taxi stand, is a marked by appropriate traffic signs waiting area for taxis, have the possibility to the passengers. Taxi ranks are located usually at junction points and other key points such as railway stations, airports near the city center places, for example in pedestrian zones.

At tax stands with high passenger exchange Nachrückstände are usually set up. This is usually within sight of the actual taxi rank. In exceptional cases, such as at Berlin's Tegel Airport, the use of the Nachrückstandes and the associated taxi rank is chargeable.

The designated areas are not to be used for parking or stopping of other road users and therefore have its own signage. In Germany, the marking is carried out for example with the traffic sign No. 229 Highway Code taxi rank ( a provision characters).

To avoid long waiting times at taxi stands, so-called Taxirufsäulen are in some cases at the taxi rank. The number and importance of the call points has decreased by the proliferation of mobile phones, taxi Apps and the automated attendant.
