Tayinloan

Tayinloan is a small village in the Scottish unitary authority Argyll and Bute. It is located about 25 km southwest of Tarbert and 27 kilometers north- west of Campbeltown on the east coast of the Kintyre peninsula. In the 1971 census, 100 inhabitants were recorded in Tayinloan.

Traffic

Tayinloan is located just off the A83 which connects from Campbeltown Kintyre with the Central Belt. A railway link is not established. There is a jetty which is regularly served by ferries along the coast. Currently there is only one compound according Ardminish on the island of Gigha. The five kilometers long trip across the Sound of Gigha takes about 20 minutes to complete.

Attractions

In Tayinloan there are three monuments of the highest Scottish monument category A. The mansion Killean House dates back to the 1880s. As an architect of the House John Burnet served. Dating back to the 12th century church Killean Chapel is now only preserved as a ruin. In the surrounding cemetery numerous medieval grave stones and cross plates can be seen. The semi-detached houses Doll 's Houses are designed by John James Burnet and were completed in 1895.
