Taylor County (Georgia)

The Taylor County is a county located in the state of Georgia in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Butler.

Geography

The County is located in west-central Georgia, is about 80 miles from Alabama and has an area of 983 square kilometers, of which six square kilometers of water surface are bordered clockwise to the following counties: Upson County, Crawford County, Peach County, Macon County, Schley County, Marion County and Talbot County.

History

Taylor County was formed on 15 January 1852 as the 98th County of Georgia from parts of Macon County, the Marion County and Talbot County. It was named after Zachary Taylor, an officer in the Tex- Mexican War and later 12th President of the United States.

According to the census of 2000, there were 8,815 people in Taylor County. Of these, 418 people were living in collective centers, the other residents living in 3,281 households and 2,283 families.
