Taylor Wang

Taylor Gun -Jin Wang ( born June 16, 1940 in Shanghai, China ) is a former American astronaut.

Life

1952 Wang moved with his family from Shanghai to Taiwan and later to Hong Kong. He received a bachelor's degree in 1967 and in 1968 a master both in physics and in 1971 a PhD in fluid mechanics and solid state physics, all from the University of California, Los Angeles.

In 1972, Wang as a scientist at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory at the California Institute of Technology. He has worked with experiments for later Spacelab - 3 mission. 1975 Wang received the U.S. citizenship.

Astronauts activity

In June 1983, Wang was selected by NASA as a payload specialist for the Spacelab - 3 mission.

STS -51- B

On April 29, 1985 Wang flew as a payload specialist aboard the space shuttle Challenger for the first time into space. The payload of the mission consisted of the Spacelab the European Space Agency ( ESA). Were carried 15 experiments, especially for the study of fluids and materials in weightless space. For biological studies also were two monkeys and 24 rodents on board. 14 experiments were successfully carried out. In addition, the scientific satellite NUSAT was suspended.

Wang later became a professor at Vanderbilt University in Tennessee.
