Tayrona National Natural Park

The South American Tayrona National Park just east of the small neighboring town of Taganga Santa Marta and extends over 35 km between the Colombian Caribbean coast and the Sierra Nevada Mountains to the mouth of the Río Piedras in the east. The park covers an area of ​​about 15,000 hectares, of which approximately 3,000 acres of maritime.

The western part is dominated by light brown hills with sparse vegetation. The central and eastern sections are marked by white beaches and small bays, behind it, there are coconut palms, giant cacti and tropical rainforest.

The Tayrona National Park was founded in 1969 and is named after the indigenous tribe of here sooner -based Tairona Indians. From this time only a few archaeological remains, such as stone foundations, left remained.

Basically, you divide the park into two areas: the eastern part of the camping zones comprises ( Arrecife and Canaveral ). He is the main entrance ( about 30 minutes from Santa Marta ) reachable.
