Tcherny railway accident

In the railway accident Kukujewskaja (also: Railway accident of Chern ). Junijul on 29 / July 11 1882greg. crashed near the village of Kukujewskaja in the government of Tula, between the stations Chern (Russian Чернь ) and the Mtsensk District, Russian Empire, at kilometer 316 of the railway line Moscow - Kursk, an express train after damage to the substructure of a railway embankment. 42 people died.

Starting position

At the accident site later, the line ran on an up to 27 -meter-high embankment, which crossed a body of water. Against the dam flowing water was passed through two cast iron pipes under the dam through. On June 29, 1882 it was raining very heavily in the area. The flow clogged and the water dammed up against the embankment and soaked it up. The crew of a train passed the accident site, reported the damage at the next station. However, this did not help, because the telegraphic connection was interrupted because of the storm.

The accident

When the pressure of the water against the embankment was too high, he broke down and was washed into the gorge. The tracks were hanging in the air. In this situation the following express drove ( " mail train " ) without warning in the danger zone in and crashed into the resulting gap.
