TDF Group

TDF (formerly Télédiffusion de France ) is a French broadcasting group based in Montrouge near Paris.

Activities

TDF operates transmission networks for television, radio and telephony providers, as well as public corporations and is one of the leading suppliers in this field in Europe. It operated 10,770 radio stations in Europe, including 8,400 in France, 930 in Germany, 550 in Finland and 630 in the rest of Europe. In Germany TDF is represented by its subsidiary, acquired in 2008 Media Broadcast.

History

Development and privatization

TDF has emerged from the 1975 made ​​splitting of the French public radio station ORTF and was initially directly to the French broadcasting authority assumed. TDF has gradually lost its monopoly on the broadcasting in France since 1982 and is exposed to competition in all its activities completely since 2003.

1987 TDF was converted into a private company. From 1991 it was a 100 % subsidiary of France Télécom; those sold in 2002, a majority of 63 % of the capital to a consortium of Caisse des Depots et Consignations and Charterhouse. International expansion

By 2000, the international expansion of TDF begins first with the acquisition of a 49 % stake in Levira in Estonia, in 2001 followed by the acquisition of MCR ( Monte Carlo Radio Diffusion ) in Monaco. Further acquisitions are PSN (Poland ) in 2002, the purchase of Axion in Spain ( 2004), Digita in Finland ( 2003), Antenna Hungaria in Hungary ( 2007). Also in 2007, the foundation of Alticom in the Netherlands. Media Broadcast in Germany was acquired in 2008 by Deutsche Telekom.

Shareholders

Since 2006, the capital of TDF is held by a consortium of private equity investors: Axa Private Equity ( 18% ), Charterhouse Capital Partners (14% ), Texas Pacific Group ( 42%), Caisse des Dépôts et Consignations (24 %) and others ( 2%).
