Te Araroa

Te Araroa is a municipality in the Gisborne region in the extreme north-east of the North Island of New Zealand. It is located about 175 km north of the city of Gisborne on State Highway 35 between Tokata and Awatere. In Te Araroa the Māoripolitiker Sir Apirana Ngata was born. The Māori of the region traditionally belong to iwi Ngāti Porou.

In Te Araroa, the road begins to about 17 km further east located East Cape, the easternmost point of the North Island. In addition, there is a long distance hiking trail called Te Araroa trail.
