Tea seed oil

Camellia oil is a vegetable oil of higher viscosity, which is pressed from the seeds of various Camellia species. The camellia oil is produced in China, Vietnam and Japan mainly from the oil-rich species Camellia oleifera and Camellia sasanqua, in rarer cases, of which less oily seeds of the tea plant (Camellia sinensis). The well-known as an ornamental plant Camellia (Camellia japonica) plays a quantitatively minor role as a source of oil. The oil must not be confused with tea tree oil, which is obtained from another plant.

The pressed oil from the seeds is used in Japan Tsubaki called ( " Camellia" ).

Ingredients

The camellia oil mainly contains oleic acid ( about 80 %), further palmitic acid (approx. 10%), linoleic acid ( 5-8 %) and stearic acid ( 3%).

Use

For nutrition, the oil is used almost exclusively in Japan and China for and probably used only regionally.

In cosmetics and as a remedy the oil is used both alone and in combination with other substances use. It is also used as anti-corrosion oil and maintenance of wood and for the production of oil paper screens. Was also in the hair care and the oil is (preferred in Japan and China ) were used. It is assumed a beneficial effect on the human hormone, and an anti-allergic effect.

As an anti-corrosion agent, the oil is traditionally used for maintenance of Japanese kitchen knives and bladed weapons such as Katana, Wakizashi and Tanto, used to prevent rust on the carbon steel commonly used in these blades. Since the oil has no adverse impact on food, cleaning of kitchen knives of this oil is not required before use.

On wood surfaces, texture, color and grain to be deepened. Paper umbrellas are impervious to moisture and have a higher transparency.

Warning

Although Camellia Oil is not prone to oxidation and therefore not one of the hardening oils should be stored safely and disposed of fire, to reduce the risk of spontaneous combustion with this oil -soaked rags. This risk is in principle to be considered in all vegetable oils.
