TEAC Corporation

The Teac Corporation (proper spelling: TEAC ) is a global electronics company with headquarters in Tokyo. The European headquarters of the company is located in Wiesbaden.

History

Teac originated in 1964 from a joint venture of the two companies Tokyo Television Acoustic Company ( founded 1953) and the Tokyo Electro Acoustic Company ( founded in 1956 ). Since 1964 Teac is used as a name and not in the sense of an abbreviation. Neither the company nor in other documents the advertised long form is used.

On January 20, 2012 Teac Onkyo concluded with a strategic alliance. This Teac and Onkyo have mutually accepted shares in the respective companies and production facilities, logistics centers and share resources in research and development. In August 2012, the sales of products for home users in Europe at Onkyo Europe, based in Grobenzell is delivered; the distribution of professional products, including the branded Tascam, Teac will continue through Europe in Wiesbaden.

In April 2013, want the majority of the Teac shares that were previously held by the investor Phoenix Capital take over the American Gibson Guitar Corporation announced. This project is supported by Teac management.

Consumer Audio ( Teac Esoteric and )

Since the 1960s, Teac occurs in Europe as a supplier of hi-fi equipment. Today, the high-end area is covered with the brand Esoteric.

Professional Audio ( Tascam )

From the American branch of the Teac hi- division In 1971 Tascam ( Teac Audio Systems Corporation Of America ) produced as a separate brand for semi-professional and professional recording and audio technology. Successes include, inter alia, professional DAT recorder ( DA 20, DA -P1) and various Portastudio -called multi-track recorder, initially on the basis of Compact Cassettes (eg Portastudio 424), and later also from other storage media, such as Sony's data MiniDisc (MD -Data, the Portastudio 564 ) and now hard drives with USB interface (DP -02 ) and digital audio recorder with recording to hard memory.

Information products

In the field of computer technology Teac became known, inter alia, by the first 5.25 " floppy drive in the world in 1978, which was also used, for example on the C64.

Today, the portfolio in addition to products for the PC area such as Blu- Ray recorders and archiving solutions includes products for data storage and data storage in the medical field.
