Teach For America

Teach For America (English: Teach for America) is a nonprofit organization in the United States, which aims to build a national movement to eliminate educational inequity. To this end, they placed excellent university graduates for two years as temporary teachers in schools of low-income areas.

2010, approximately 4,500 program participants were selected from over 46,000 applicants. Among other things, 17 percent of all Harvard graduates competed for participation. Meanwhile, independent studies have documented the success of the concept.

The organization was founded in 1990 by Wendy Kopp, which is counted by Time among the 100 most influential people in the world.

2002 was founded in Great Britain Teach First, an organization that pursues similar goals. There are now with Teach For All, a network that supports the development of independent organizations in other countries, such as Teach First Germany.
