Teaching hospital

Teaching hospital (often an academic teaching hospital) is a name for a hospital, which hosts a part of medical studies. The teaching hospital is not a part a matter of the university.

Teaching hospitals may be hospitals of different care levels, partly specialized hospitals ( an orthopedic specialist hospital, for example ) can be a teaching hospital. The student training takes then only for well-defined sections place in this particular subject. A teaching hospital is connected through a contract with a particular medical school, only this faculty students come to training at the teaching hospital. Teaching hospital and university are often in the same state; a medical school usually has several teaching hospitals. The teaching hospital receives from the faculty of remuneration for the training of students.

The term " teaching hospital " is often found in the public representation ( for example, in the letterhead ). Students are supervised in the clinical part of the study of medicine, particularly in the internship year. You can often even choose to practical year (or part thereof ) want to serve at a teaching hospital or university clinic itself, in part, is a division instead.

The concept of a practical training of medical students at the bedside was realized already in the Middle Ages in the hospitals of Persia (see medicine of the Middle Ages ).
