Team 10

Team 10 Team X or Team Ten was an existing 1953-1981 group of architects, which emerged from the Congrès International d' Architecture Moderne ( CIAM ) and the dogmatic representatives of classical modernism, Le Corbusier criticized ahead.

Important members were included Peter and Alison Smithson (UK), Georges Candilis and Shadrach Woods ( USA), Jacob Bakema and Aldo van Eyck (The Netherlands ), Giancarlo De Carlo (Italy ), Stefan Wewerka ( Germany ).

The term " Team 10 " got this group of "young rebels " because it was commissioned in the summer of 1953 at the ninth CIAM Congress ( in Aix -en- Provence) to organize the tenth and last real CIAM Congress. There also the Greek -born French architect Georges Candilis the other young members, especially the couple with Smithson he planned buildings in Casablanca had a lasting impression, because he there modernism to local climatic and cultural: had adapted conditions (in this case Muslim ). After the dissolution of CIAM members of the made themselves "Team 10 " from dealing independently continue working.

At the beginning was one of the key criticisms demanded in the Charter of Athens before the war, functional separation of housing, work, leisure and transport in urban development. This was opposed by a hierarchy in house, street, neighborhood and city. Over time, the members often experimented with new types of space systems for buildings and neighborhoods with which they sought to implement their urban demands. Examples include the expansion of the city Toulouse- le- Mirail, as well as the " rust bucket " of the Freie Universität Berlin from Candilis - Josic - Woods, the orphanage in Amsterdam by van Eyck. As a constitutive one must consider the design " Golden Lane Project" of Smithson for London. Some representatives are associated with the currents brutalism and structuralism.

With the death of Jacob Bakema, in 1981 it decided to disband the team 10
