Team Milram

The Team Milram was a German professional cycling team that participated in the UCI ProTour through 2010.

History

The team existed from 2006 to 2010 and took over the UCI ProTeam license of Team Domina Vacanze. Main sponsor of the team was the Milram brand of the Bremen-based North Dairy Group. Alessandro Petacchi and Erik Zabel were the top drivers and captains of the team. Was completed the squad of 25 mainly German and Italian drivers.

Among the main achievements of Team Milram 2006 and 2007 belonged to the victory of Christian Knees at the German classic Rund um Köln, the profit of Lower Saxony Tour by Alessandro Petacchi in 2006 and 2007, Erik Zabel's title as vice world champion in 2006, his win of the Red jerseys of the best sprinter in the Tour of Germany in 2006 and 2007 as well as his three stage wins at the Vuelta a España. As of 2008, the team traveled under the German flag. The effective relocation of the team from the Central Italian city of Bergamo in the Olympic Club in Dortmund was held on 25 June 2008. New General Manager was Gerry van Gerwen. His founded in 2007, operating company Velocity GmbH took over the former Italian operating company Ciclosport with all components including ProTour license to the start of the 2008 season. With a new organizational structure, a highly tapered squad, clear objectives and an enhanced anti - doping program, the team changed comprehensively.

The special focus in 2008 was on the promotion of young talent. With Martin Velits and Peter Velits, Dominik Roels, Christian Kux, Artur Gajek, Markus Eichler and Luca Barla seven promising young talents have been committed. To support came Jochen Hahn as a coach and sports director of the team. The Berlin branchte many years of experience in working with young riders in the team. The new young talent scouting system should ensure that young talents continue to be discovered for the team. In this respect, especially the collaboration with the Continental Team Milram has been strengthened. From a sporting perspective, the Milram team focused on the 2008 Tour de France, the German race and all ProTour races. The combination of experienced riders like Erik Zabel on the one hand and the young talent on the other hand was the basis for the 2008 season.

On 16 May 2008, the team Milram separated from its top riders Alessandro Petacchi after it has been locked on 5 May 2008 by the CAS for a doping offense at the Giro d' Italia in 2007 for ten months. A short time later, the team Milram by Igor Astarloa separated because of a doping suspicion. This was due to conspicuous blood values ​​of the Spaniard, which suggested a doping violation. The team leader of Team Milram stressed, however, that no positive doping case was present. The driver took action against this decision.

With the start of the 2008 Tour de France, the team tested a collaboration with the Sports University in Cologne. Moreover, moved to the team's base in the Dortmund Olympic Club.

On 13 July 2010, the team Milram announced before the stage start of the 9th stage of the Tour de France that the North Milch AG will end the end of 2010 the sponsorship of the team. The search for a new title sponsor was unsuccessful, the end of the season, the team was disbanded.
