Development

TeamSpeak 1.5

TeamSpeak 1.5 was released in October 2001. It was available as freeware and the first version with a client - server architecture. The support is now set.

TeamSpeak 2

TeamSpeak 2 is written in Borland Delphi for Windows systems and ported to Kylix on Linux. For Mac OS X, there was only an unofficial client named TeamSpeex.

This version supports the codecs CELP, GSM and Speex in steps of 5.1 kbit / s to 25.9 kbit / s The client is basically free. The server is also free for non-commercial purposes. It may here be divided among up to 10 servers up to 1,000 slots ( slots for users). For commercial use a fee-based license must be purchased. The allocation of non-profit licenses for the creation of a larger number of servers has been set for TeamSpeak 2.

TeamSpeak 3

The next version TeamSpeak 3 uses C , which simplified porting to other operating systems. Appears next to the Windows and Linux versions, a version for Mac OS X versions for iOS and Android are available for a fee.

The first beta version of TeamSpeak 3 was released on December 19, 2009 and final version was released on August 10, 2011. TeamSpeak 3 supports the reading of input text. In a conference call participants can be arranged in a virtual space (left, right, front, back ), this should be easier to follow the conversation. This works, if one has two or more output channels. For users also have skins for personalization. It has also introduced support for low-latency codec CELT. Support for GSM and CELP has been set, however. Latency and quality can be configured independently (less latency and more quality match each more bandwidth), bringing bit rates from 2.6 to 114 kbit / s result for both codecs.

The server software can be used for free for non-commercial purposes. By default, it allows the creation of a single server with 32 slots. By registering for a free non-profit License (NPL ) non-profit organizations (eg computer game clans ) and individuals can distribute up to 512 free slots on 10 servers. Even with TeamSpeak 3 is payable for commercial use a slot -dependent monthly license fee.

Technology TeamSpeak 3 has been integrated into various products, such as in the Military Simulation America's Army 3 or Vendetta Online. TeamSpeak cooperates with Overwolf, the TeamSpeak 3 connects with functions similar to those of Xfire or Steam Community.

Concept

In order to communicate with each other, each user must connect to a server, which in turn can be divided into several channels.

Server

Server can be installed either at hosting providers (for example, many providers for game servers ) usually hired for a monthly fee or using the server software on your own server or your own computer. If you have a license, you can create according to multiple servers with the same installation of the server software. The server software can be used on less powerful vServers, which is much cheaper than renting a server rule, if one may use a non-profit license.

The management of most of the settings of a single server to work with a graphical user interface of the client. ( Called instance ) for managing a server installation, and some detailed settings can be found at TeamSpeak 2 a web interface on port 14534, while in TeamSpeak 3 by default, only use via Telnet on port 10011 is available. However, there are also web interface and software with which the management of TeamSpeak 3 can be represented graphically. When you first start the server software is a server on port 8767 ( TeamSpeak 2) or 9987 ( TeamSpeak 3) is automatically created.

Channel

The Channel can be literally translated as channels within a server see, between which you can switch, similar as with the CB radio. The channel will be displayed as a tree view, similar to the folder in Windows Explorer. Double-clicking a channel enters you in this. Then you can hear what the other users (usually represented by green, with the TeamSpeak 3 as blue lights in the tree view ) say and even talk with them. Unlike the CB radio as many users can talk simultaneously.

Functions

In addition to communicating with other clients on the same channel, TeamSpeak offers additional functions that are partially implemented in other VoIP programs.

Whispern

In addition to the normal "speaking" in TeamSpeak, there is also the " Whispern " (of English. " Whisper", whispering ). The communication then takes place with the selected person and / or channel.

Poke

The nudge in TeamSpeak is a type of communication to make, accompanied by a sound, attention to himself. It is mostly used to an absent user to deliver a message that opens via pop -up in this.
