Teano

Teano is an Italian municipality ( comune ) with 12,494 inhabitants (as of 31 December 2012) in the province of Caserta in Campania. The community is located about 30 kilometers northwest of Caserta, about 40 kilometers southwest of Isernia and about 48 kilometers north- west of Naples.

History

As Teanum Sidicinum the place was already known in Roman times, and capital of the Sidiciner. Coin finds indicate its importance. The remaining ruins, including an amphitheater with about 10,000 seats. The decline of the Roman Empire also meant the demise of the local region. In the 9th century a Benedictine abbey was built. Traffic

The Via Appia was south of Teano, Via Casilina (today: Strada Statale 6) east of the community. The Autostrada A1 runs through the municipality, a connection point does not exist but, instead, combines the Strada Statale 608 with the Appian Way ( State Road 7) and Caianello. The Teanos railway station is on the railway line from Rome to Naples via Cassino.
