Teatro Comunale Florence

The Teatro Comunale di Firenze is an opera house in Florence, Italy.

The former amphitheater Politeama Fiorentiono Vittorio Emanuele with 6,000 seats was opened on 17 May 1862 a performance of the opera Lucia di Lammermoor by Gaetano Donizetti and was the center of cultural creation in Florence.

After a fire, it reopened in April 1864.

In 1882 the theater was roofed over and renamed after the acquisition by the municipality in 1930 in Teatro Comunale. In 1958, the opera house was closed for 3 years and after undergoing a modernization in May 1961, again with a performance of the opera Don Carlos by Giuseppe Verdi. The Teatro Comunale di Firenze has 2,000 Plätze.Wegen of, inter alia, held annually Maggio Musicale Fiorentino there, it is also known as Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino.
