Description

The history of the Teatro Ópera dates back to 1871. This year, anticipating the entrepreneur Antonio Petalardo that then close and far from the village street in Buenos Aires would be revitalized by the construction of theaters. This moment was regarded as the birth of the Ópera, a theater that should be in principle devoted to everything " lyrical " and had amazing installations for its time, including a private power company. Thus, it was the first theater in Latin America with electric lighting.

This first building was demolished in 1935, however, for the forthcoming enlargement of the Avenida Corrientes. Then the plot of Clemente Lococo was acquired and the Belgian architect Alberto Bourdon designed the new building, which was characterized by a simple, but original facade and seating for 2,500 people. The stage was suitable for various events and also had a large movie screen. Inside, the ceiling to simulate a starry sky. In the " Petit Ópera " in the closet " Sneak Previews" are shown movies, also it is used for other cultural events.

Over the years it has seen Ava Gardner, Édith Piaf, the Folies Bergeres, the Paris Lido, Ella Fitzgerald and other artists.
