The Polytechnic University of Madrid (Spanish Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, UPM ) is a technical university in Madrid. It was formed in 1971 from the merger of several separate technical universities in the Spanish capital and the technical faculties of the former University of Madrid, the bulk of which now forms the Complutense University of Madrid.

The University is a member of the TIME network, which will allow students to participate in a dual degree program with leading universities abroad.

History

The origins of the technical studies in Spain began in 1582 with the founding of the Royal Academy of Mathematics under King Philip II. Though the Polytechnic University of Madrid in 2006 only celebrated her 35th birthday, the majority of their various faculties between 17 and 19 were founded. century that were independent until 1971.

Campus

The different faculties are spread over several locations in the whole of Madrid:

  • Ciudad Universitaria, the University district of Madrid
  • Campus de Montegancedo in Boadilla del Monte northwest of Madrid

  • Campus Centro: several university centers, which are located in the center of Madrid

  • E.U.I.T. Escuela Universitaria de Ingeniería Técnica = (all other courses, minimum duration 3 years)
  • E.T.S. Escuela Técnica Superior = (architecture, minimum duration 5 years)
  • E.T.S.I. Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingenieros = (all other courses, minimum duration 5 years)
