Technobabble

Technobabble ( in German and Techno Babbel ) is a portmanteau of the words technology (german technology) and babble (English babble ). Usually, we denote by this word the experiment in many science fiction movies and series, futuristic or unrealistic processes (eg beaming ) can be explained by a number of technologically -sounding expressions to let the audience assume the existence of a scientific basis. In fact Technobabble is however mostly nonsense.

Sometimes referred to this word but also technical discussions between tech savvy people (also called nerds ), which sometimes sound like gibberish to outsiders.

Phlebotenum is one of Buffy creator Joss Whedon uncreated, ironic art word. It is given in the series attempts to explain based on magical principles and is therefore in the fantasy series Buffy - The Vampire Slayer and Angel - Hunters of darkness the equivalent of the technobabble of science-fiction series.
