Tecknau is a municipality in the district of Sissach the canton of Basel -Country in Switzerland.

Geography

Tecknau located in Eital to 438 m above sea level. M. at the north portal of the Hauenstein base tunnel.

  • Area: 235 ha, of which 60 % forest, 26 % agriculture, 14 % settlements.

The community Tecknau bordered on the northeast by Ormalingen, to the east by Wenslingen, to the south Kilchberg, on the west by Rünenberg and to the northwest by Gelterkinden.

History

Early cave bears lived in the area, and in 1296 Tegnow was first mentioned. In the Middle Ages the village belonged to Homberg and Frohnburg and later Thierstein and Farnsburg. 1461 Tecknau came to Basel. After the revolution in 1798 it belonged to the district Gelterkinden and later came to the district Sissach. As tunnel village there was from 1912 to 1916 known as the Hauenstein base tunnel was built.

Traffic

Tecknau has an S-Bahn station, located at the Hauenstein railway line Olten-Bern/Luzern the Hauenstein base tunnel direction and direction Sissach - Liestal Basel. In addition, the village is accessible by a postal bus to Gelterkinden.
