Ted Drury

Ted Evans Drury (* September 13, 1971 in Boston, Massachusetts) is a former American ice hockey player ( striker ) and older brother of Chris Drury, who was active during his playing career also in the National Hockey League.

Career

Ted Drury studied from 1989 to 1993 at Harvard University and went from 1989 to 1993 for the University team in the NCAA, the highest college league on the ice. This stay was interrupted by a one-year stint (1991 /92) with the U.S. National Team. In total, he completed 74 games for Harvard, came up with 49 goals and 72 Assists for 131 points. His stay in the national team - he continued after his last year of college still for eleven games - reflected in the statistics with all in all 64 games, 12 goals, 27 assists and 39 points to book. Even before his first NCAA year, the Calgary Flames had selected him to a total of 42 position after a convincing high school career with 56 goals and 115 points in 49 games in the second round of the NHL Entry Draft in 1989. Drury succeeded in the course of the 1993/94 season the jump to the NHL squad of Flames. In his rookie season, he scored five goals in 34 games and seven assists for twelve points. In March 1994 he was released as part of a barter transaction, together with Gary Suter and Paul Ranheim in exchange for Michael Nylander, Zarley Zalapski and James Patrick to the Hartford Whalers. Here he continued in the same season once again added 16 games with a goal and six points.

The game year 1994/95 launched the Americans in the farm team for the Springfield Indians of the American Hockey League, but was called after two games with Springfield with an assist in the Squad Squad of the Whalers. In the shortened lockout season by the first Drury graduated 34 games with three goals and nine points. Ultimately, he did not make the breakthrough at the Whalers, so he remained unprotected in the Waiver Draft 1995. As a result, the Ottawa Senators secured his services. For the Senators, the striker was in 42 games on the ice, where he recorded nine goals and 16 points. In early October 1996, he was transferred together with the rights to Marc Moro defenders in exchange for Jason York and Shaun Van Allen to the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim. Over the next three years, he came up with at least 73 missions each. Overall, he graduated to 1999 235 games including playoffs for the Ducks. Here, get him 21 goals and 46 points. He also had to do a lot of defensive duties in the third to fourth row and showed to be a good bully players. In the game year 1999/2000 ended his stay on the West Coast and Drury moved to eleven games (one goal, two points) in the east to the New York Islanders. This gave in exchange from Tony Hrkac and Dean Malkoc. This is true at least for Hrkac something similar for Van Allen and York.

In New York, he completed another 55 games, but was not beyond one goal and three points. So it was that he was again unprotected in the expansion draft in 2000 and the new team from Columbus secured his rights. With the Blue Jackets but he did not get along. Ultimately, it was enough only for another NHL game. He spent the rest of the season with the Chicago Wolves, the farm team of the Jackets, in the American Hockey League. Here he was able to achieve 21 goals and 42 points in 68 missions. In addition, 14 games came with five goals and nine points in the playoffs. After expiry of their contracts offensive player signed in the summer of 2001 as a free agent contract with the New Jersey Devils. At the top team from the East Coast, he did not make it into the squad and was sent to the farm team for the Albany River Rats. For the Albany River Rats, he played 51 games with eight goals and 18 points before the Devils charges him in exchange for Mike Rucinsky to Carolina. Even with the Hurricanes, he came only in the farm team for the Lowell Lock Monsters used. Here he was able to achieve six goals and 16 points in 21 games, including playoffs.

For the following season, the Americans opted for an engagement in Europe and reached agreement with the Hamburg Freezers on a contractual relationship. During the 2002/03 season, the striker completed including 57 playoff games, with Drury scored 16 goals and 40 points for the team of the Elbe. After the season he moved within the Deutsche Eishockey Liga for the Kassel Huskies. The team from northern Hesse of Americans remained for two years. However, many quarrels in the club, frequent change of coach and a team that ultimately never got together, difficult conditions. In particular, in the last season was at the Huskies together little and as you climbed into the play- downs against Wolfsburg ultimately from sporty. In a total of 103 games for the North Hesse he came up with 26 goals and 57 points. For the season 2005/ 06 he moved to Krefeld Penguins. His contract ran until 2007. Thereafter Drury ended his active career and is now working as a broker on the stock exchange in Chicago for a large hedge fund.

Family

His younger brother Chris also played in the National Hockey League. He was awarded the Calder Memorial Trophy as the best rookie in the NHL in 1999 and won the silver medal with the U.S. team at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City.
