Ted Heath (bandleader)

George Edward "Ted" Heath ( born March 30, 1902 in London, † November 18, 1969 in Virginia Water, Surrey ) was a British trombonist and bandleader.

Life

Since his father was head of the Wandsworth Borough band, Ted Heath came very early into contact with the music. At the age of 10 he won a Tenor Horn Competition, from the age of 14, he played trombone. He earned as a street musician money first. Around 1919, he also had the opportunity to play along in Doc Cook's orchestra, a time in London gas- animal border Ragtime Orchestra, which also Sidney Bechet had come to England. Heath was discovered by bandleader Jack Hylton, the 1922 his first steady job gave him. Other engagements had Heath in 1924/25 with Bert Firman, from 1925 to 1927 with Jack Hylton and 1927-1935 at Bert Ambrose.

After agreements with Sid Lipton and Geraldo he received in 1944 by the BBC the order to start their own orchestra, which also had a modern jazz especially in the area of the swing and limited. In 1945 the band every Sunday appeared in London at the Palladium. Specialty in the repertoire of Big Band was an arrangement originally written for solo piano London Suite by Fats Waller. Several tours led by England, on the Continent and in 1956 for the first appearance in the United States. His recent albums he recorded for the label had mostly London, included a series of recordings of note for note nachgespielter arrangements of legendary big bands. His orchestra was conducted after his death by Don Lusher.

Bakerloo Non Stop by Ted Heath (taken from his Big Band ), named after a London Underground line, after the Second World War was the signature tune of BFN in Hamburg, which opened its popular broadcast Seventeen Hundred Club.
