Ted Hibberd

Thomas Edward "Ted" Hibberd ( born April 22, 1926 in Ottawa, Ontario ) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey player. At the Olympic Winter Games in 1948 he won the gold medal as a member of the Canadian national team.

Career

Ted Hibberd began his career as a hockey player in his hometown, where he was active from 1942 to 1948 at junior level for the Ottawa New Edinburgh, Ottawa St. Pats, Ottawa Montagnards and Hull valances. In the senior level, he played in the same period for the Ottawa New Edinburgh, Ottawa Montagnards, the Ottawa Navy Blue Jackets of the National Defense Ottawa Hockey League and the Ottawa Senators. He was then recruited by the RCAF Flyers, with whom he represented at the Olympic Winter Games 1948 in Canada. Since Hibberd was not a military officer at the time, he was short and Aircraftsman, the lowest air force rank, member of the Royal Canadian Air Force. After the Winter Olympics, he spent three years at the RCAF Flyers, before he ended his career.

Internationally

For Canada Hibberd took part in the Winter Olympics 1948 in St. Moritz, where he won the gold medal with his team. In eight games, he scored three goals and four assists.
