Ted Schwinden

Theodore " Ted" shrinkage ( born August 31, 1925 in Wolf Point, Roosevelt County, Montana ) is a former American politician. He was 1981-1989 the 19th Governor of the state of Montana.

Early years and political rise

Ted shrinkage attended the local schools of his home. After the Wolf Point High School ended, he joined the U.S. Army in 1943 in a. Until 1946 he remained in military service. After his return to civilian life he sat at the Montana School of Mines continued his education. At the University of Montana in Missoula, he studied until 1950, history and political science. Since 1954, he operated a farm in Roosevelt County.

Shrinkage is a member of the Democratic Party. In 1958 he was elected to the House of Representatives from Montana. There he remained for two terms. In 1965, he became President of the Grain Farmers Association of Montana (Montana Grain Growers Association). Between 1969 and 1976 he served as a government commissioner for the state lands ( Commissioner of state lands ). In 1976 he was elected vice- governor of his state; that he was the deputy of Governor Thomas Lee Judge. In the upcoming 1980 gubernatorial elections succeeded shrinkage, defeating incumbent Judge in the primaries and win the nomination of his party. He then sat through in the actual election with 55.4 percent of the vote against Republican Jack Ramirez.

Governor of Montana

Shrinkage took up his new post on January 5, 1981. After a re-election in 1984, he was able to exercise it until 1 January 1989. In these eight years, the state suffered economic problems that could keep the governor by a clever fiscal policy but under control. Otherwise, his term was uneventful. After the end of his term shrinkage is no longer politically have appeared. Instead, he taught politics at Carroll College and the University of Montana. After he withdrew into retirement, he spends his time alternately in Helena and in Phoenix, Arizona. His wife Jean Christianson, with whom he has three children, died on March 24, 2007.
