Ted Scott

Edward ( Ted ) Scott ( born April 30, 1919 in Edmonton, Alberta; † 21 June 2004) was a Canadian, Anglican clergyman and theologian and Primate of the Anglican Church of Canada.

Scott grew up in Vancouver, where his father worked as rector. Scott attended the Anglican Theological College and was ordained in 1942. Scott 1966 Anglican Bishop of Kootenay.

From 1971 to 1986, Scott Primate of the Anglican Church of Canada and served as moderator of the central committee of the World Council of Churches from 1975 to 1983. Scott was considered a liberal clergyman of his time within the Church and defended reforms such as the approval of women's ordination in the Anglican Church of Canada. In the late 1980s, Scott was a member of the Eminent Persons Group of the Commonwealth of Nations, which supported the introduction of sanctions against the apartheid regime in South Africa.

Primate Scott received the 1998 Pearson Peace Medal of Canada in 1978 and Companion of the Order of Canada.

2004 Scott died as a result of a car accident near Parry Sound, Ontario.
