Ted Smith (art director)

Edward "Ted" Jenkins Smith ( born June 14, 1886 in Pennsylvania, † June 19, 1949 in Los Angeles, California ) was an American art director and production designer, who during his 1936-1949 enduring activity for Warner Bros. particularly to specialized in providing equipment for Western and often collaborated with the film directors Raoul Walsh and Michael Curtiz and twice was nominated for the Academy Award for best Production Design.

Life

Smith began his career as an art director and production designer in the film industry in 1927 at the Hollywood directed by Charles Brabin silent battle in the Valley of the Giants ( The Valley of the Giants ) with Milton Sills, Doris Kenyon and Arthur Stone. Nine years later he started in 1936 his work for Warner Bros. and worked during his last until his death in 1949 career at the scenic base of over seventy films.

At the Academy Awards in 1943, he was first nominated for the Academy Award for Best Production Design, with Casey Roberts for the color film heroes of the air ( Captains of the Clouds, 1942), one directed by Michael Curtiz war film starring James Cagney, Dennis Morgan and Brenda Marshall.

His second Oscar nomination for Best Production Design in a color film received Smith in 1946 with Jack McConaghy for the Western incurred directed by David Butler A Man of Action (San Antonio, 1945) in which Errol Flynn, Alexis Smith and Victor Francen played the lead roles.
