Teegarden's star

Teegardens star, also known as SO025300.5 165258 1652 SO0253 or short, is a star in the constellation Aries. There is a red dwarf with an apparent magnitude of about 15 mag and an extremely high proper motion and proximity to the Sun. The distance of the star is about 12.5 light-years, making it the sun is one of the closest stars.

The star was discovered by a group of astronomers led by Bonnard Teegarden J. on recordings of the NEAT program in 2003. Some data opened the possibility that it could be around the third closest star system, which would have caused very unusual properties of the star. Later studies showed a greater distance.
