Teenage Jesus and the Jerks

Teenage Jesus and the Jerks were an American No Wave band from New York. It existed from 1976 until 1979.

History

The band was founded in 1976, among others, the then sixteen -year-old Lydia Lunch and James Chance and Reck and Bradley Field, Chance, however, left the group very quickly and founded the Contortions. Teenage Jesus remained a trio, with lunch as a head. Reck left the band in 1978 and went back to Japan. For him, later followed Jim Sclavunos and Gordon Stevenson as bassist. In 1978 they were one of four bands that were chosen by Brian Eno for the " No New York " compilation, the central document of No Wave. In addition to the four pieces on this, the band released only two singles and two short maxi-singles. 1979 sparked lunch on the band. Of 2008, for performances in London and New York for a reunion, in 2009, the band toured through Europe.

Many of the members remained active musicians, James Chance, who first founded the Contortions and Lydia Lunch started successful solo careers. Reck founded in Japan the influential No Wave band Friction, Jim Sclavunos played, among others, with lunch at 8 Eyed Spy, at the Cramps, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds and The Vanity Set.

Work

Your entire factory covers (including some published for the first time in 2008 pieces ) not more than 15 different pieces with a total running time of approximately 20 minutes, live performances rarely lasted more than 10 minutes. Packed played slide guitar, but left it all open strings, so no hand chords, her singing was usually extremely loud screaming. The pieces were completely rhythmically, with to under 30 seconds in length and often extremely short.

Teenage Jesus and the Jerks were one of the most important bands of the No Wave and influenced especially following New York bands such as Sonic Youth.
