Shortly before the final climb to the summit there is a greater ( approximately 2.5 × 2.5 meters) notch in the mountain, exposing a fantastic view of the surrounding lakes and Forggensee. In strong wind from the north or northwest, it whistles loudly through this notch. Reason: The Wind from the Allgäu region rather flat country meets here in about 1800 meters for the first time an obstacle; the wall of the Tegel massif.

Further increases to the summit lead from Branderfleck on the East Ridge and the Latschenköpfl from the north ridge. Both are much more difficult - though they hardly require climbing in the strict sense, but perfect sure-footedness and freedom on the narrow, grassy ridges that may be committed in the wet in any way. Both increases are rated with a difficulty level I after the UIAA scale and are neither marked nor signs noted in the standard card works.

Ski runs

Ski touring

Tegel mountain enjoying increasing popularity among tour -goers. In particular, at high avalanche risk, solo tours or scant natural snow, the snow-covered slopes offer secured and for fitness training on ( the car park to the mountain station 920 hm 5.2 km climb ).

The climb to the mountain Tegel should be via the by the German Alpine Club ( DAV) well-marked route of ascent. The route leads from the Tegelbergbahn parking ( 802 m) mostly off-piste through the woods to the head tube hut (1330 m). Then the route follows forest roads east of the runway, only the last 200 meters of altitude must be increased at the edge of the runway. Especially towards the end of the tour or during the ascent of the slopes are present in parts for ski conditions steep sections. At the destination of the route, the Tegelberghaus at 1,707 m, it is possible to stop.

Another climb to Branderschrofen (1881 m ) can be carried along the aforementioned path over the western ridge. Up to the beginning of the wire fuses this is no problem with skis. The way forward is without skis, crampons in icy conditions are required. A fuse on the wire rope is not possible in winter on snow usually. Snowdrift accumulations and cornices often involve considerable avalanche danger, there is also a risk of falling in step errors. Overall, the winter ascent is therefore recommended only with adequate alpine experience.

The descent is along the normal slopes. From Branderschrofen - west ridge is provided safe conditions, the possibility in the north-facing boiler ( " Grüble " ) through steep couloirs (some ~ 50 ° ) abzufahren. In addition to rockfall is here considerable avalanche danger, such as a fatal accident in 2006 shows.

Since the season 2010/11, there is a ski touring trail with signs to the issues of safety, environmental impact and skiing technique along the DAV- ascent route.

The village of Schwangau prohibits the Runway utilization from 17.30 clock, because at that time runway preparations are carried out. Since this occurs in the steep slopes by means of wire rope secured groomers, can be fatal for skiers.
