Tehama County, California
The Tehama County is a county located in the state of California, United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Red Bluff.
Geography
The County is located in Northern California and has an area of 7672 square kilometers, of which 29 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Shasta County, Plumas County, Butte County, Glenn County, Mendocino County and Trinity County.
History
Tehama County was founded in 1856 from Butte County, Colusa County and Shasta County. The county was named after the town of Tehama. Possible origins lie in the Arab word tehama ( "hot lowlands " ), the Spanish word Tejamanil or " high water " in the dialect of the North American Indians.

According to the census of 2000, there were 56 039 people in Tehama County. There were 21 013 households and 14 898 families. The population density was 7 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 84.79 % White, 0.57 % African American, 2.10 % Native American, 0.79 % Asian, 0.10 % Pacific Islander residents from the and 8.26% from other races groups; 3.39% were descended from two or more races. 15.83% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 21 013 households out of which 32.90 % have children under the age of 18 living with them. 54.60 % were married couples living together, 11.60% had a female householder with no husband. 29.10% were non-families. 24.00 % of all households and 11.50% had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.62 and the average family size was 3.08.
Based on the county the population was spread out with 27.40 % under the age of 18, 7.80 % from 18 to 24, 25.70% from 25 to 44 years, 23.20 % between 45 and 64 years and 15.90% were 65 years old or older. The average age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 97.70 males, 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95.00 males.
The median income for a household was $ 31,206, and the median income for a family was $ 37,277. Males have a median income of $ 30,872, women $ 22,864. The per capita income was $ 15,793. 17.30 % percent of the population and 13.00% of families are below the poverty line. 24.00 % of those under age 18 and 9.20 % were 65 years or older.
