Tekkon Kinkreet

Tekkon Kinkreet (Japanese鉄 コン 筋 クリート, Tekkon Kinkurīto, pun tekkin concrete (鉄筋コンクリート, tekkin konkurīto ), dt " reinforced concrete ") is an anime film from 2006, based on the eponymous manga series by Taiyo Matsumoto based. Studio 4 ° C produced the 111- minute film. Directed by Animatrix producer Michael Arias.

Action

The orphaned brothers Black and White, two opposite characters, living in run-down urban Treasure Town. The city is being transformed by dubious businessmen in an entertainment world. In contrast, the two brothers take on the fight to save himself and the city before the change.

Background

The manga by Taiyo Matsumoto appeared in Japan from 1993 to 1994 in 33 separate chapters in the manga magazine Big Comic Spirits. This single chapter brought the Shogakukan publishing house out in three anthologies. The anthologies sold in Japan with over a million copies surprisingly good, Tekkon Kinkreet was Matsumoto's breakthrough as a draftsman. In the U.S., the manga is titled Black & White first in Pulp magazine and then published in three volumes by Viz. 1995 was a theater implementation of the manga.

Back in 1999, Michael Arias created in collaboration with Koji Morimoto a pilot, a first version of the film. The computer-animated pilot film received among others the price for excellence in the Japan Media Arts Festival 1999. Arias wanted to make the entire film in 3D, but the project was on, when it turned out to be too difficult. It was not until 2003, when Arias once again worked with the Studio 4 ° C to Animatrix, took up the idea you again.

The film premiered on 21 October 2006 at the Tokyo International Film Festival. On 23 December the same year the film was released in Japanese theaters. In Germany the film was first shown on 10 February 2007 at 14plus competition at the Berlinale 2007.

Awards

In the 61st Mainichi Eiga Concours in 2006, the film won the Ofuji - Noburo Prize, which is to distinguish in memory of the animators Noburo Ofuji, artistically valuable animated films. When Tōkyō Kokusai Anime Fair 2008 Taiyo Matsumoto was awarded for his screenplay of the anime. Likewise, the art director Shinji Kimura was excellent.
