Tékumel

Tekumel is a fantasy world that is since the 1970s, developed by MAR Barker, an American professor of linguistics. She served since then as the game world for several pen -and- paper role-playing games.

Tekumel based on Indian, near- eastern, Egyptian and Central American instead of the usual European mythology. Huge empires on the technological level of the Middle Ages vie with each other by means of magic, large standing armies and antique equipment. Barker himself considered the creation of the fantasy world as a linguistic exercise, as he constructed their own language, the Tsolyáni, a mix of Urdu, Pashtu and Mayathan.

The first Tekumel role-playing game published in 1975, at TSR under the title The Empire of The Petal Throne. Later followed other games, inter alia by Game Science, Theatre of the Mind, Empire Publishing Company and Tekumel games. Currently there is a version of Guardians of Order, which is based on a variant of the Tri -Stat system. A German translation currently does not exist.

The world is based on several novels by Barker. The first, The Man of Gold, appeared in 1984.
