Teleprompter

The prompter, even teleprompter (English for " prompter ", from the Latin Promptus "determined, ready " ), sometimes Autocue (brand name of the eponymous English company ), is a technical resource that at especially television productions, rare in film productions as well as lectures and speeches will be used to give the impression of eye contact and free speech in the audience.

In a television studio monitor is mounted under the camera lens, which displays the text mirrored. Over a one-way mirror in front of the lens, the moderator can read it without taking his eyes from the camera. The quality of the camera image is not greatly influenced by this device, the impairment can be easily compensated by the camera.

In lectures and speeches two slightly tinted glass panes in the right and left side of the field of view of the speaker to be mounted on stands, the associated monitors or projectors are on the floor. In this way, the speaker can address the whole audience on the one hand by constantly turning the head, the other remains in the center a clear view free for the press cameras.

The text shown is generated by a special computer software and the moderator self-directed (usually with foot control ) or an operator. On television are speakers who read from a prompter, to the ever recognize from right to left moving eyes. Prompter be built since the 1950s and used.
