Telets of Bulgaria

Telez ( Bulgarian Телец ) was 761-765 the ruler ( Khan) of the Bulgarian Empire in the territory of the Volga estuary. He followed after Khan Winech on the throne. The home Ugain the associated Telez is described by witnesses as a courageous and assertive.

After he was enthroned, he led a good trained army which devastated the border regions of the Byzantine Empire. The Byzantine Emperor Constantine V equipped due to this provocation of an army and had this loaded onto ships. This force should land in the north of the Bulgarian Empire in Anchialos during which the Byzantines brought more troops to the southern border in position to enclose with a pincer movement the Bulgarians.

Telez stood at Anchialos with his troops against the Byzantine Emperor, but lost the lossy for both sides battle of Anchialos ( 763 ). The circumstances of his death are unclear. So it is claimed by some sources, he had fallen in battle. Others believe that he was killed as a member of the Bulgarian nobility by members of the pro- Slavic group, whose troops had defected after the battle of Anchilos to Byzantiniern.
