Television New Zealand

Television New Zealand ( TVNZ ) is a public service broadcaster in New Zealand. It is a so-called Crown Entity and as such state-owned. The seat is in Auckland.

There are television programs produced and distributed these via digital satellite (DVB -S) and terrestrial (DVB -T). The distribution is done through the provider Freeview. In addition, the programs are spread over the pay-TV platform Sky Network Television, some exclusive.

History

The company was founded in 1980. The history of television in New Zealand goes back to the year 1960. From 1960 to 1962 regional television stations were established initially in the largest cities Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin, which have been operated since 1962 under the umbrella of the New Zealand Broadcasting Corporation ( NZBC ). This operation at that time also radio. A national television program was first produced by TV One in 1969, when the regional stations were combined to form a network.

The resolution of the NZBC was made in 1975 and the television channel TV One was managed as an independent organization. In addition launched with TV 2, called in 1976 South Pacific Television, a second public- service broadcaster. Other distinctive features was the radio with Radio New Zealand.

The two television stations were combined in 1980 with Television New Zealand. Until 1988 was under the umbrella of the Broadcasting Corporation of New Zealand ( BCNZ ) and Radio New Zealand to which were then continued as separate organizations.
