Telfair County, Georgia
The Telfair County is a county located in the state of Georgia in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is McRae.
Geography
The County is located in the central south-east of Georgia and has an area of 1150 square kilometers, of which eight square kilometers of water surface, and borders clockwise to the following counties: Wheeler County, Jeff Davis County, Coffee County, Ben Hill County, Wilcox County and Dodge County.
History
Telfair County was formed on December 10, 1807 35 County of Georgia. It was named after Edward Telfair, a native Scots and governor of Georgia.

According to the census in 2000 lived in Telfair County 11,794 people in 4,140 households and 2,873 families. The population density was 10 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 59.71 percent White, 38.44 percent Black or African American, 0.03 percent Native American, 0.20 percent Asian, and 1.16 percent from other races; 0.47 percent were descended from two or more races. 1.82 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 4,140 households out of which 31.1 percent have children under the age of 18 living with them. 48.4 percent were married couples living together, 16.7 percent were single mothers and 30.6 percent were non-families. 28.4 percent of all households and 13.6 percent lived in people aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.48 and the average family size was 3.01.
22.5 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 10.3 percent between 18 to 24, 30.1 percent between 25 and 44, 22.3 percent between 45 and 64 and 14.9 percent were 65 years or older. The average age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were statistically 110.9 males to 100 females age 18 and over, there were 113.2 males.
The median income for a household was $ 26,097, and the median income for a family $ 32,513. Males have a median income of $ 26,444, women $ 19,970. The per capita income was $ 14,197. 17.3 percent of families and 21.2 percent of the population were below the poverty line.
