Telipinu (god)

Telipinu (also Telipuna; hatt Talipinu. ") Is a vegetation god of the Hittites, which they took over from the Hattiern.

In Hatti myth he is the son of Taru and the Sun Goddess of Arinna and the husband of Ḫatepinu (also Ḫatepuna ). As the son of God weather he can bring thunder, lightning and rain, which irrigate the fields and let the corn grow. Its symbol is the oak and his cult city Tawana / Tawinija.

Myths

The myth of the disappearance Telipinus is preserved in Hittite ritual texts.
