Tell al-Rimah

Tell al - Rimah is an archaeological site in Jabal Sinjar in the Iraqi province of Ninawa. The place is identified with the ancient Near Eastern city Karana.

Seton Lloyd conducted in 1938 in the Jabal Sinjar Surveys, where he also captured this locality. Excavations were then, however, only in the 1960s under the direction of David Oates instead.

The results indicate that the site was inhabited at least from the 3rd millennium BC. However, the flowering of the place came only in the 2nd millennium. Archaeological evidence of this era include a palace and a temple. Political contacts with Zimri- Lim of Mari and substantiated by Tontafelfunde. However, most famous find from Tell al - Rimah is a stele of Adad - nirari III.
