Tell Tayinat

Tell Tayinat is an archaeological place about 25 km away from Antakya in Amuq level, in close proximity to Tell Acana.

In ancient times, the place was probably Kunulua and was the capital of the Late Hittite Kingdom of Patina. In Tell Tayinat especially monumental pillars and pillar bases from the 9th and 8th centuries BC have been found.

In Tell Tayinat 1935-1938 Excavations of Oriental Institute of the University of Chicago took place. 1936 several fragments of a colossal statue of Halparuntiyas II were recovered. Since 2008 there find excavations carried out under direction of archaeologist Timothy P. Harrison of the University of Toronto. Where the upper part of a colossal statue of the local Hittite king Suppiuliuma was found (9th century BC) in June 2012.
