Tematangi or Tematangui is an atoll of the Tuamotu Archipelago in French Polynesia. The nearest neighbor is Mururoa Atoll, 161 km away. The atoll reached a stretch of 11.5 km long by 7 km wide. The reef of the atoll enclose the deep lagoon, which has no access to the sea.

Administratively Tematangi belongs to the municipality Tureia.

History

The atoll was discovered on April 5, 1772 by William Bligh, at this time, however, it was uninhabited. 1826, when it was hit by Frederick William Beechey, lived on the island a few people.

On some cards, the atoll is listed under the name Bligh 's Lagoon or Bligh ( s ) Iceland.

On the atoll Muslims can pray in all directions, as it is the antipode of Mecca.
