Temburong District

Temburong is the easternmost district ( daerah ) of the Sultanate of Brunei with 9,300 inhabitants in an area of 1,166 km ². The district is bounded by the Bay of Brunei in the north and Malaysia in the east, south and west. It thus represents a spurious exclave, which is separated from the western part of the country of Brunei, but is accessible from the main land over the sea.

Capital is Bangar; another large town is Labu.

Through the district, the rivers flow and Temburong Pandaruan, the latter forms the eastern border with Malaysia.

Temburong is divided into five Mukim Amo, Bangar, Batu Apoi, Bokok and Labu. At the lowest level in this 75 kampung (villages ) are broken.

Tourism

Temburong is accessible from the capital of Brunei from only by boat. The crossing takes about 45 minutes.

In Temburong traditional longhouses of the indigenous Dayak population, as well as numerous species of animals such as crocodiles and monkeys can be seen. Worth seeing, especially:

  • The Ulu Temburong National Park - the largest contiguous primary forest in Borneo
  • The Batang Duri Park on Temburong River
  • The Batu Apoi Forest Reserve with a center for field studies of tropical rainforest ( Rainforest Field Studies Centre)
  • The Peradayan Recreation Park
  • The 410 meter high Bukit Peradayan
  • The 310 meter high Bukit Petoi with panoramic views of the South China Sea
