Temephos is a flammable colorless to white solid that is practically insoluble in water. He hydrolyzed in strong bases and acids.

Use

Temephos is used as an insecticide. It serves to combat mosquito and sandfly larvae in waters that are not used for drinking water. Each year about 25,000 to £ 40,000 are employed in the United States. The effect is based on the inhibition of acetylcholinesterase.

Temephos is in the European Union active substance, which would be admissible in plant protection products. In Germany, Austria and Switzerland, no plant protection products containing this active ingredient are allowed.
